Segregation Neutralised Steels: Microstructural Banding Elimination from Dual-Phase Steel Through Alloy Design Accounting for Inherent Segregation

چکیده

Abstract Banding in commercial dual-phase steels, such as banded ferrite and pearlite or martensite microstructures, is inherited from segregation during solidification continuously cast material, predominantly Mn segregation, subsequent rolling. The microstructures lead to anisotropic mechanical properties which generally undesirable. This paper presents an alloy design approach (termed “segregation neutralised” steels) remove banding of the second phase by utilising co-segregation both austenite stabilisers reduce local variability stability. new composition proposed also considers achieving same strength levels through maintaining fraction, grain size solid solution strengthening increments. Phase field modelling has been used predict transformation behaviours for a steel neutralised steel. A 5 kg laboratory production route (casting, hot rolling coiling simulation, cold annealing) shown that structure seen steels accurately reproduced reduced dramatically rolled condition well after annealing Chemical analysis distribution shows no correlation bands, due achieved balance stabilisers.

High Temperature Behavior of Dual Phase Steels

Dual phase steels with different martensite volume fraction and morphology were tensile tested at a temperature range of 25 to 5500C. Stress-strain curves of all steels showed serration flow at temperatures of 250 and 3500C, and smooth flow at the other temperatures. Both yield and ultimate tensile strengths increased with increasing testing temperature up to about 450<sup...

Ultra-Fine Grained Dual-Phase Steels

This paper provides an overview on obtaining low-carbon ultra-fine grained dual-phase steels through rapid intercritical annealing of cold-rolled sheet as improved materials for automotive applications. A laboratory processing route was designed that involves cold-rolling of a tempered martensite structure followed by a second tempering step to produce a fine grained aggregate of ferrite and ca...

Deep Learning Phase Segregation

Abstract Phase segregation, the process by which the components of a binary mixture spontaneously separate, is a key process in the evolution and design of many chemical, mechanical, and biological systems. In this work, we present a data-driven approach for the learning, modeling, and prediction of phase segregation. A direct mapping between an initially dispersed, immiscible binary fluid and ...

Lateral alloy segregation in thin heteroepitaxial films

Alloy segregation is believed to be an important factor in the growth of the wetting layer and subsequent formation of islands during heteroepitaxy. We report simulated annealing results that determine the lowestenergy configuration of a strained system. Our results indicate that in addition to vertical segregation, there is also an energetic driving force for lateral segregation and formation ...

Modelling of Microstructural Banding during Transformations in Steel

Microstructural banding is defined as alternating layers of two different microstructures in steel, often ferrite and pearlite. It is caused by fluctuations in the concentration of alloying elements, primarily manganese, due to microsegregation introduced during solidification. In this thesis, a model is presented to simulate banding using phase transformation kinetics theory. An existing progr...
